Ambassador Litzenberger joined USAID Mission Director Jay Singh on a visit to Zaqatala this week. The trip highlighted U.S. support for women entrepreneurs and emphasized our assistance to the development of Azerbaijan’s agricultural sector. During the trip, the Ambassador met with local business leaders and discussed the role of women in the workforce, agricultural sector trends, and possible cooperation with the U.S. government. While in Zaqatala, Ambassador Litzenberger also opened a new USAID-supported Women’s Resource Center that provides training for local women to gain important job skills. He also opened the first agricultural service center in Zaqatala that will offer American Valtra brand tractors for rent to local farmers. Service centers like this one provide affordable access to agricultural equipment and consultancy services to small farm-owners who may not be able to hire a full-time agronomist or own equipment that is used only a few times a year.
