Defense Threat Reduction Office (DTRO) – BAKU is responsible for all Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA)-related activities in Azerbaijan to include nuclear and biological counter proliferation programs; arms control inspections, training and exercises. DTRO is the Department of Defense (DoD) focal point for implementation of Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) programs in Azerbaijan.
DTRO – BAKU performs all diplomatic engagements related to Defense Threat Reduction, as well as provides coordination and support to DTRA-sponsored program management and site visits / training events. Our activities are coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, State Veterinary Service, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of National Security, State Border Guard Service, State Customs Service, and other government agencies. The office provides analysis and advises DTRA Headquarters on political, military, cultural, economic, and geographic dynamics affecting or likely to affect possible courses of action in support of ongoing or projected activities.
The DTRO Chief, as a member of the U.S. Embassy country team and accredited attaché, advises the Ambassador and Country Team on all chemical, biological, radiological threat reduction and arms control treaty implementation matters.
