Our Regional English Language Officer traveled to Azerbaijan recently to observe the implementation of the U.S. Government-funded English Access Micro-scholarship Program at IDP schools in Mingechevir and Yevlakh. He also visited Ganja State University and the Ganja American Corner. The English Access Micro-scholarship Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), and provides a foundation of English language to talented 13 to 20 year-olds from economically disadvantaged sectors through after-school classes and intensive summer activities. Participants gain English skills that may lead to better jobs, educational prospects, and increased opportunity to participate in future exchanges. Since its inception in 2004, over 95,000 students in more than 85 countries have participated in the Access Program.
